Werribee Open Range Zoo will host a two-day celebration of Diwali on 18 and 19 October, with music, food and cultural traditions set against the backdrop of its open plains.
The festival will feature live performances from Indian and Nepalese artists, alongside Sri Lankan dance troupes, tabla and sitar players, and Bollywood fusion acts. Visitors will also have the chance to sample traditional cuisine from food stalls run by local community members.
Families can take part in hands-on activities such as henna painting, diya decorating and rangoli design workshops. Eco-friendly activities will also be on offer, encouraging sustainable ways of celebrating the Festival of Lights.
The zoo will be transformed with Diwali-themed lanterns, fairy lights and projection mapping, creating a festive atmosphere that highlights the traditions of Indian and Nepalese heritage.
All activities are included with zoo entry, giving visitors a chance to enjoy both the wildlife and the celebration.
