Victorian Seniors Card holders can enjoy eight days of free public transport to explore thousands of Seniors Festival events this October, ahead of statewide free weekend travel for more than 650,000 seniors starting next year.
Seniors from across the state can travel free on trains, trams, buses, and coach services from Sunday, 5 October until Sunday, 12 October. Seniors Card holders need to carry their card while travelling and touch on and off with their seniors myki as usual—but no fare will be charged. On non-myki services, seniors can simply show their Seniors Card to the conductor or bus driver.
From 1 January 2026, free weekend travel will be available statewide, allowing Victorian Seniors Card holders to catch a train, tram, or bus at no cost, making it easier to stay connected with family, friends, and the community.
Now in its 43rd year, the Victorian Seniors Festival runs throughout October and features more than 3,000 free or low-cost events and activities across the state. This year’s theme—Connect, Create, Celebrate—encourages older Victorians to build social connections, discover new interests, and embrace positive ageing.
Festival highlights include Country Concerts and Songs of Judy Garland, the ACMI Seniors Film Festival, abseiling at Mount Buffalo, and an 1800s-themed walking tour. Seniors Card holders are also encouraged to use the free transport to attend the annual Celebration Day at Federation Square on Sunday, 5 October, featuring line dancing, a mass ukulele play-along, and tai chi.
Minister for Public and Active Transport Gabrielle Williams and Acting Minister for Ageing Mary-Anne Thomas said, “Eight days of free public transport makes it easier than ever for older Victorians to get out, connect with others, and enjoy the sights and festivities our state has to offer during the Seniors Festival.
“From next year, free travel on weekends will mean Victorian Seniors Card holders can head out and about wherever they like—at no cost.”
