Melbourne commuters are being urged to plan ahead as bus services in the city’s south-east and west face widespread cancellations due to industrial action.
The Independent Transport Union has announced three days of full-day stoppages for CDC Victoria drivers, beginning on Friday, 12 September. The first 24-hour strike will take place on that Friday, followed by a 48-hour stoppage across Monday, 15 and Tuesday, 16 September.
Passengers using services run from the Oakleigh and Wyndham depots will be most affected, with buses running to a reduced Sunday timetable during the stoppages.
Despite the disruption, all school bus services, including the university shuttle to Monash University, will operate as normal. Other operators such as Dysons, Kinetic, Ventura and McHarry’s are not part of the action and will continue running on their usual timetables. Train and tram services will also be unaffected.
Transport authorities are advising passengers to check transport.vic.gov.au for updates on whether their routes are impacted and to consider alternative travel options. Real-time traffic and public transport information will also be available through the same site.
