Bollywood Dance Company’s ‘Happily Ever After’ wins hearts

The Bollywood Dance Company, helmed by the talented trio of Sohini Banerjee, Darshan Pawar, and Vihang Nikalje, mesmerised audiences in Sydney and Melbourne with their latest musical masterpiece, Happily Ever After.

Conceptualised and written by Vihang and directed and choreographed in collaboration with Sohini and Darshan, the musical tells the heartwarming story of Amar and Sharmila, first-generation migrants to Australia who build a new life for their family—successful businesses, a beautiful home, and two children, Alisha and Veer.

A wave of new culture and progressive values enter in their household through Alisha-Zain and Veer-Alex and their unconventional love. As the story unfolds it shows how the
parents embrace unconventional love through the tryst of cultures and traditional values.

Audiences were taken on an emotional journey through moments of laughter, tears, and joy as the story explored themes of love, tradition, and cultural acceptance.

The audience was moved as they saw that each act reflected their story and journey to Australia. There were moments of tears, joy, laughter and drama as they musical travelled through time along with beautiful visuals, dances, colorful costumes, props and lavish sets.

A standout was the meta-drama Laila Majnu, which highlighted the power of unconventional love, culminating in a cross-cultural and same-gender wedding that left audiences moved and inspired.

The highlight of the show was the cross-cultural and same-gender wedding ceremony of Alisha and Zain, and Veer and Alex, which touched hearts and brought tears of joy to the audience.

With dazzling visuals, vibrant costumes, and a powerful message—Love is Love—this musical struck a chord with audiences, blending glamour and substance in a truly unforgettable experience.
