The Melbourne Cricket Ground will be a cauldron of colour and sound this Boxing Day as Australia faces India in the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

In a landmark partnership with the Victorian Government, the event promises to be bigger and better than ever, with a vibrant Summer Festival in Yarra Park and the historic CommBank Women’s Ashes Test in January.

The free-entry Summer Festival, taking place from 26–28 December 2024, will celebrate the cultural connections between India and Australia through food, music, art, cricket, and community. Cricket Australia is delivering the festival, aiming to elevate the fan experience ahead of the much-anticipated Test series.

With over double the ticket sales of 2018, the MCG is set to be packed for Day 1, and fans are encouraged to secure tickets early via cricket.com.au/tickets.

In addition to the Boxing Day Test, Melbourne will host KFC Big Bash League matches and the CommBank Women’s Ashes one-day international, culminating in the first-ever women’s Test at the MCG from 30 January to 2 February 2025. This will be the first women’s Test at the MCG since 1949, marking the 90th anniversary of the inaugural women’s Ashes series.

Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley said: “The Boxing Day Test is one of the most iconic events in world cricket, and we can’t wait to see the MCG packed for this historic occasion. The Indian-inspired Summer Festival will add to the excitement, and we’re counting down to the first-ever women’s Test under lights in January.”

Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos added: “This partnership with Cricket Australia celebrates Melbourne’s strong relationship with India, while also boosting our local economy as passionate cricket fans flood the MCG this summer.”
