Bendigo Bank’s scholarship program, one of the largest private initiatives of its kind in Australia, is set to reopen applications on Monday, 2 December, for the 2025 academic year. With nearly two decades of history, the program has transformed the educational journey of thousands of students, providing financial support, mentorship, and access to opportunities that many could only dream of.
Since its launch in 2006, the program has distributed more than $13.3 million to over 1,900 students nationwide, addressing barriers often faced by young people, especially in regional and remote areas. Bendigo Bank Chair, Vicki Carter, emphasised the ongoing commitment to empowering future generations.
“This program has been pivotal in supporting students’ ambitions while tackling skills shortages in communities across Australia. We’re proud to continue this legacy and help young people realise their potential,” Ms Carter said.
One inspiring story is that of 18-year-old Yorta Yorta Dja Dja Wurrung woman, Ailish Clements. Currently a La Trobe University student in Bendigo, Ailish overcame significant challenges to complete her VCE, including moving out on her own and navigating pregnancy during her final year of school.
“It was incredibly tough, but I’m so glad I pushed through,” Ailish shared. “The scholarship has been a game-changer, enabling me to continue my studies when I thought it might not be possible.”
Ailish urged others to persevere despite hardships. “The lessons you learn and the growth you experience far outweigh the struggles,” she said.
For 2025, the program includes various scholarships tailored to different needs and aspirations. These include support for rural and regional students, Indigenous students, and those with an interest in agribusiness. Highlights include:
- University Scholarships: $6,500 per year for two years, awarded to 12 rural and regional students.
- TAFE Scholarships: $5,000 per year for two years, available to five rural and regional students.
- Indigenous Scholarships: University scholarships of $6,500 and TAFE scholarships of $5,000, both per year for two years.
- Agribusiness Scholarships: Support for university and TAFE students with a passion for the agricultural sector.
- The Robert Johanson Bendigo Bank Board Scholarship: Offering $8,000 annually for two years.
- Additionally, hundreds of Community Bank scholarships are available nationwide, ensuring a broad reach and impact.
