India’s cultural footprint in Australia is set to expand with an exciting new chapter. The Consulate General of India in Melbourne, represented by Dr. Sushil Kumar, joined forces with Victoria’s Premier Jacinta Allan, Minister for Tourism, Sports and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos, and AFL legends Campbell Brown and Josh Kennedy to unveil a historic event: Melbourne will host its first Pro Kabaddi League exhibition match. Set for 28 December at John Cain Arena, the match will run alongside the iconic Boxing Day Test between India and Australia.

Kabaddi, a sport rooted in agility, teamwork, and intense competition, has garnered significant popularity across India. Now, through this exhibition match, Australia will get a taste of the sport that has captivated millions. The upcoming event, with key figures from both the AFL and government in attendance, reflects the strengthening cultural and sports ties between India and Australia.

The announcement, made on 12 November, promises an energetic addition to Melbourne’s Boxing Day celebrations, blending cricket’s excitement with the fast-paced action of kabaddi.
