NSW Police announce a $1 million reward to finally solve Prabha Arun Kumar’s 2015 murder. Prabha was on the phone with her husband when a stranger ended her life

Nearly a decade after Prabha Arun Kumar’s tragic murder in Parramatta Park, NSW Police and the state government have renewed their commitment to solving the case, announcing a substantial $1 million reward for any information leading to an arrest and conviction. Superintendent Danny Doherty, who is leading the investigation, expressed hope that the reward will encourage new leads, describing the murder as a “targeted attack” while dismissing motives related to robbery, racial bias, or sexual violence.

The 41-year-old mother was walking through the park on 7 March 2015, speaking to her husband over the phone when she was fatally stabbed. Her final words, “He stabbed me, darling,” still echo painfully, encapsulating the sorrow her family and the wider community have felt since her death. Despite thorough investigations, including detailed CCTV analysis and repeated public appeals, no arrests have been made to date.

Superintendent Doherty highlighted that the $1 million reward aims to “shake loose the memories” of anyone who might have witnessed or heard anything that could provide critical insights. This renewed appeal underscores a deep commitment by NSW Police to bring long-awaited justice to Kumar’s family. “Detectives have spent the last decade searching for Prabha’s killer, and we are hopeful that this reward will encourage those with even small pieces of information to come forward,” Doherty said.

A coronial inquest scheduled for March 2025 is expected to bring fresh scrutiny to the case, reflecting ongoing efforts to resolve what has been a painful and unresolved chapter for Kumar’s family. The Indian community has welcomed the renewed commitment, viewing it as an opportunity to find closure and deliver justice for a family that has been left waiting for far too long.

The announcement of the reward serves as a powerful reminder of the dedication behind this investigation, as NSW Police urge the community to help bring the final pieces of this puzzle together. With the reward now in place, authorities hope to break through a nearly decade-old silence and bring an end to this tragic mystery.
