Premier Jacinta Allan announced today in Delhi that Sonata Software, a global tech company, will establish its Centre of Excellence in Melbourne.

This initiative is expected to create around 100 new Victorian jobs over the next three years for data engineers, solution architects, and technical analysts.

Sonata Software, a leading modernisation engineering company, provides digital transformation services to clients across various sectors, including retail and consumer packaged goods, manufacturing, healthcare, life sciences, telecommunications, media and technology, banking, financial services, and insurance.

The Centre of Excellence will focus on the retail and manufacturing industries to meet the growing demand in Australia for generative AI and data solutions. It will leverage the talent and expertise from Victoria’s top educational institutions to support research and development efforts.

Victoria’s world-class technology infrastructure, skilled talent, innovative culture, and thriving education and financial services sectors were pivotal in Sonata Software’s decision to establish the Centre of Excellence in Melbourne.

The company’s growing presence in the state will drive digital innovation and transformation across key local industries, developing IT solutions for global businesses.

In addition, Sonata Software plans to source talent from the Digital Jobs program, connecting with a pool of experienced workers who have newly acquired digital skills.

Victoria’s tech sector contributed $35.6 billion to the state’s economy in 2023 and supports nearly 280,000 tech workers across more than 22,000 businesses.

“We’re backing Sonata Software’s expansion in Victoria because it will deliver more jobs and boost our booming tech sector,” said Allan.

Minister for Economic Growth Tim Pallas said, “Victoria’s thriving tech sector continues to be a magnet for global tech companies, enhancing our state’s innovation capabilities and creating valuable opportunities for our highly skilled workforce.”

“With our Centre of Excellence in Melbourne, we are tapping into Victoria’s vibrant ecosystem of innovation and technology, which allows us to bring Sonata Software’s world-class services closer to our local clients,”  added Sonata Software Country Head and Vice President for Sales Biju John.

Support Independent Community Journalism

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun exists for one reason: to tell stories that might otherwise go unheard.
We report on local councils, state politics, small businesses and cultural festivals. We focus on the Indian diaspora and the wider multicultural community with care, balance and accountability. We publish in print and online, send regular newsletters and produce video content. We also run media training programs to help community organisations share their own stories.

We operate independently.

Community journalism does not have the backing of large media corporations. Advertising revenue fluctuates. Platform algorithms change. Costs continue to rise. Yet the need for credible, grounded reporting in a multicultural Australia has never been greater.

When you support The Indian Sun, you support:

• Independent reporting on issues affecting migrant communities
• Coverage of local and state decisions that shape daily life
• A platform for small businesses and community groups
• Media training that builds skills within the community
• Journalism accountable to readers

We cannot cover everything, but we work to cover what matters.

If you value thoughtful reporting that reflects Australia’s diversity, we invite you to contribute. Every donation helps us maintain the quality and consistency of our work.

Please consider making a contribution today.

Thank you for your support.
