The event featured a rich array of performances, including the dramatic presentation of “Govardhana, The Mountain of Love”

ISKCON Brisbane’s Sri Krishna Janmastami celebrations, held on 27 August  2024, were a true spectacle of culture, spirituality, and community spirit. The Croatian Club in Rocklea transformed into a vibrant hub, attracting attendees from all walks of life for a day filled with dance, theatre, and sacred rituals.

The festival showcased Lord Krishna’s teachings through a series of lively performances. With vibrant costumes and engaging storytelling, the performers brought Krishna’s message of love and compassion to life, creating a truly enriching experience for the audience.

Central to the day were sacred rituals that added a spiritual depth to the festivities. Hymns echoed through the venue, as attendees participated in traditional chants and devotional activities, fostering a sense of unity and reverence.

The festival’s atmosphere was further enhanced by a bustling marketplace offering a range of items, from clothing to the ever-popular prasadam—sanctified food that has become a staple of ISKCON celebrations. Visitors had the chance to take home unique gifts while enjoying the delicious fare.

Among the distinguished guests was Milton Dick MP, who shared his reflections on the significance of the event on social media, stating, “Honoured to speak at the Janmashtami festival, marking the birth of Lord Krishna, a symbol of love, compassion, and selflessness. Grateful to be part of such a special occasion with hundreds of locals.”

The dedication of the ISKCON Brisbane team shone through, making the event a success and highlighting the importance of togetherness. The Janmastami celebration was not just about the birth of Lord Krishna, but a powerful reminder of the values that unite communities—love, compassion, and shared humanity.

Support Independent Community Journalism

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun exists for one reason: to tell stories that might otherwise go unheard.
We report on local councils, state politics, small businesses and cultural festivals. We focus on the Indian diaspora and the wider multicultural community with care, balance and accountability. We publish in print and online, send regular newsletters and produce video content. We also run media training programs to help community organisations share their own stories.

We operate independently.

Community journalism does not have the backing of large media corporations. Advertising revenue fluctuates. Platform algorithms change. Costs continue to rise. Yet the need for credible, grounded reporting in a multicultural Australia has never been greater.

When you support The Indian Sun, you support:

• Independent reporting on issues affecting migrant communities
• Coverage of local and state decisions that shape daily life
• A platform for small businesses and community groups
• Media training that builds skills within the community
• Journalism accountable to readers

We cannot cover everything, but we work to cover what matters.

If you value thoughtful reporting that reflects Australia’s diversity, we invite you to contribute. Every donation helps us maintain the quality and consistency of our work.

Please consider making a contribution today.

Thank you for your support.
