Sydney Festival has welcomed three new members to its Board of Directors, each bringing a unique blend of expertise that promises to shape the Festival’s future in exciting ways. Abs Osseiran, Yeesum Lo, and Dr Sunil Badami join the board at a critical time, as the Festival gears up for its 50th anniversary in 2026.
Abs Osseiran, a Corporate Tax Partner at Deloitte, is no stranger to governance and the arts. His extensive experience with major multinational companies and his role in organisations such as Queer Screen Limited and the Can Too Foundation highlight his dedication to community causes. Now, as he steps into the role of Chair of the Board’s Audit and Risk Committee, his sharp focus on governance will be pivotal in guiding the Festival’s strategic decisions.
Yeesum Lo, Head of Development at Paramount Australia & New Zealand, adds a fresh perspective to the board with her impressive track record in creative strategy and business acumen. Her deep understanding of content development and audience analytics is set to energise the Festival’s mission to deliver engaging and innovative experiences. Lo’s rich background in media, coupled with her passion for the arts as a classically trained musician, brings a diverse skill set that will undoubtedly enhance the Festival’s offerings.
Dr Sunil Badami, with over two decades of experience in the arts and media, rounds out this trio of new board members. His work with respected organisations like the ABC and Creative Australia, along with his commitment to diversity and representation, aligns seamlessly with the Festival’s goals. Growing up in Western Sydney, Badami’s connection to the local community adds a valuable layer of insight, ensuring that the Festival continues to resonate with Sydney’s diverse population.
The new appointments come as the Festival prepares for its 2025 edition, the last under the leadership of current Festival Director, Olivia Ansell. With a new Festival Director on the horizon, the board’s role in this transitional period will be crucial. Kate Dundas, the recently appointed Chair of the Sydney Festival, expressed her excitement about the new board members, emphasising their collective vision and the positive impact they are expected to have.
As Sydney Festival embarks on this new chapter, the influence of Osseiran, Lo, and Badami will be instrumental in steering the Festival towards its ambitious goals. Their combined expertise is set to strengthen the Festival’s position as a leading force in the arts, ensuring it continues to captivate audiences both locally and globally.
The trio officially took up their new roles on 27 August 2024, marking the beginning of what promises to be an exhilarating journey towards the Festival’s milestone anniversary.

Support Independent Community Journalism
Dear Reader,The Indian Sun exists for one reason: to tell stories that might otherwise go unheard.
We report on local councils, state politics, small businesses and cultural festivals. We focus on the Indian diaspora and the wider multicultural community with care, balance and accountability. We publish in print and online, send regular newsletters and produce video content. We also run media training programs to help community organisations share their own stories.
We operate independently.
Community journalism does not have the backing of large media corporations. Advertising revenue fluctuates. Platform algorithms change. Costs continue to rise. Yet the need for credible, grounded reporting in a multicultural Australia has never been greater.
When you support The Indian Sun, you support:
• Independent reporting on issues affecting migrant communities
• Coverage of local and state decisions that shape daily life
• A platform for small businesses and community groups
• Media training that builds skills within the community
• Journalism accountable to readers
We cannot cover everything, but we work to cover what matters.
