The Big Bash League (BBL) has significantly expanded its pool of Pakistani cricket talent, unveiling an additional 75 nominees for this year’s drafts. Among the latest entries are some of the country’s top cricketing stars, including fast bowler Naseem Shah and explosive opener Fakhar Zaman.

This surge in Pakistani representation comes after the earlier announcement of Haris Rauf, Shadab Khan, Imad Wasim, Usama Mir, and Zaman Khan being nominated. The new batch includes 64 male and 11 female cricketers, making this year’s drafts one of the most diverse and competitive in recent memory.

From the men’s side, besides Shah and Zaman, other notable nominees include the current Test captain Shan Masood and young batting sensation Saim Ayub. Their inclusion is expected to add a fresh edge to the league, offering teams a range of options, from experienced campaigners to rising stars.

The women’s nominations feature Pakistan’s T20 captain Fatima Sana, known for her all-round capabilities, alongside veterans like Nida Dar and Diana Baig. Emerging talents such as Tuba Hasan and Arooba Shah are also on the list, signalling a strong representation of Pakistan’s female cricketers in the WBBL.

The drafts, scheduled for 1 September, will see these players join the mix with cricketers from across the globe, as teams look to bolster their squads for the upcoming season. With the addition of these Pakistani stars, the competition is set to be fiercer than ever, promising an exciting season ahead for cricket fans.

Support Independent Community Journalism

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun exists for one reason: to tell stories that might otherwise go unheard.
We report on local councils, state politics, small businesses and cultural festivals. We focus on the Indian diaspora and the wider multicultural community with care, balance and accountability. We publish in print and online, send regular newsletters and produce video content. We also run media training programs to help community organisations share their own stories.

We operate independently.

Community journalism does not have the backing of large media corporations. Advertising revenue fluctuates. Platform algorithms change. Costs continue to rise. Yet the need for credible, grounded reporting in a multicultural Australia has never been greater.

When you support The Indian Sun, you support:

• Independent reporting on issues affecting migrant communities
• Coverage of local and state decisions that shape daily life
• A platform for small businesses and community groups
• Media training that builds skills within the community
• Journalism accountable to readers

We cannot cover everything, but we work to cover what matters.

If you value thoughtful reporting that reflects Australia’s diversity, we invite you to contribute. Every donation helps us maintain the quality and consistency of our work.

Please consider making a contribution today.

Thank you for your support.
