Townsville locals could share in the glory of three of Townsville’s four Olympians on the big screen at Riverway this weekend as Townsville goes LIVE for the Paris Olympics.

A LIVE site is being Activated at Riverway over two weekends for the Olympics and Paralympic Games and kick off is this Friday from 5pm.

Councillor Vera Dirou said she was looking forward to seeing Townsville unite in the green and gold over the weekend as Townsville’s own athletes took to the world stage.

“We know people are relishing in Olympic glory at home at the moment, so let’s take those cheers from the living room to Riverway Oval in support of our Aussie athletes,” Cr Dirou said.

“Townsville sports fans can don their Green and Gold and cheer on our Aussie athletes in Paris 2024 between 2-4 August and 30 August to 1 September.”

Mayor Troy Thompson said the activation was a partnership with the State Government as part of statewide celebrations where Queenslanders were gathering for special events backing Aussie athletes and marking Queensland’s own ‘8-Years-To-Go’ milestone as hosts of the 2032 Games.

“I’d like to personally cheer on our Aussies to go for Gold! But more importantly wish our Townsville athletes all the best, as a city we couldn’t be more proud,” Cr Thompson said.
