Pioneering the final frontier: Dr Susmita Mohanty and Professor Janna Levin lead space exploration talk

Space enthusiasts are in for an exciting evening as two prominent figures, Dr Susmita Mohanty and Professor Janna Levin, engage in a stimulating discussion titled “Space for Earth.” This event will be held on Tuesday, 13 August, from 7:30 to 8:30 pm at the UTS Chau Chak Wing Auditorium in Ultimo, NSW.

Dr Susmita Mohanty is an expert in space entrepreneurship and design, renowned for founding space companies across three continents. Beginning her career with NASA and Boeing, she has made significant contributions to the Space Station Program. In 2009, she co-founded Earth2Orbit, India’s first private space start-up, which opened the US launch market for India. Her accomplishments have earned her a spot on the cover of Fortune Magazine in 2017, and she was listed among the “25 Indians to Watch” by the Financial Times in 2012. Additionally, she was named one of the BBC’s 100 inspiring and influential women in 2019. Mohanty is also a nonresident scholar at Carnegie India and a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council for Space Technologies.

The discussion will be moderated by Professor Janna Levin, a renowned physicist and astronomer. Levin holds the Claire Tow Professor of Physics and Astronomy position at Columbia University and is the Founding Director of the Science Studios at Pioneer Works in New York. Her research has advanced the understanding of black holes, gravitational waves, and the cosmology of extra dimensions. As a Guggenheim Fellow and acclaimed author, Levin’s depth of knowledge will greatly enrich the conversation.

Attendees can look forward to a deep dive into the challenges of building sustainable habitats beyond Earth and the innovative technologies propelling the next generation of space missions. This event promises to offer valuable insights into how these advancements could reshape our future on and off the planet.

This thought-provoking discussion is free to attend, though bookings are essential. The UTS Chau Chak Wing Auditorium is located on Gadigal Land at 14/28 Ultimo Road, Ultimo, NSW 2007. For anyone fascinated by the future of space exploration and sustainability, this event offers a unique opportunity to hear from two of the most influential voices in the field.
