Parramatta is stepping into the future with the launch of its new Smart City and Innovation Strategy (2024-2033), designed to drive innovation and connectivity across the City.
Endorsed at this week’s Council meeting, the strategy outlines a comprehensive plan to transform Parramatta into a vibrant, sustainable, and connected hub of innovation within Greater Sydney.
Having been one of the first councils in Australia to implement a Smart City Master Plan in 2015, Parramatta continues to lead the way.
City of Parramatta Lord Mayor, Cr Pierre Esber, highlighted the community’s strong ambition to become a leading smart city.
“This strategy will steer our efforts to develop a connected, sustainable City equipped with state-of-the-art facilities at the heart of Greater Sydney,” Cr Esber said.
“We are laying the foundations for a truly connected City, benefiting our community now and in the future.
“In Melrose Park, we successfully piloted around 70 environmental sensors to monitor conditions such as air quality and noise. We plan to expand this sensor network across the City to inform better decision-making for our community.
“In the CBD, particularly on Phillip Street, we are progressing with stage two of proposed works that include smart city features like environmental monitoring, condition-responsive and energy-efficient lighting, and smart irrigation.”
PHIVE’s innovative and sustainable design has garnered international and national acclaim, including a six-star Green Star Design rating.
“We aim for Parramatta to be recognized as a leading smart City globally,” Cr Esber said.
“This initiative is part of our bold vision to transform Parramatta into a global City by 2050.”
Draft Parramatta 2050, the Council’s long-term vision for the City’s future, is currently open for public exhibition until Friday, 19 July 2024.
