Governor of Queensland joins Consulate General of India in Brisbane for 10th International Day of Yoga

The Consulate General of India recently marked a momentous occasion, celebrating the 10th International Day of Yoga at the iconic Allan Border Field. The event witnessed an enthusiastic gathering of yoga enthusiasts and dignitaries, highlighting the global resonance of yoga in promoting health and well-being.

Her Excellency the Honourable Dr. Jeannette Young AC PSM, the Governor of Queensland, graced the event with her esteemed presence. Governor Young, who has been a vocal advocate for improved health and well-being among Queenslanders, actively participated in the yoga sessions. Reflecting on her commitment, she shared a post on social media stating, “The Governor, who pledged at her swearing-in to promote improved health and well-being among #Queenslanders, took part in the 10th International Day of Yoga celebrations held at Allan Border Field in #Brisbane this morning.”

Also in attendance was Councillor Vicki Howard, whose presence underscored the local government’s support for initiatives that foster community health. Councillor Howard’s participation was met with appreciation from the organisers and attendees alike.

Mrs. Neetu Bhagotia, the first Consul General of India in Brisbane, played a pivotal role in orchestrating the event. Her efforts in promoting the benefits of yoga and strengthening cultural ties between India and Australia were evident throughout the celebrations.

The event featured a variety of yoga sessions, catering to both beginners and seasoned practitioners. Participants engaged in a series of asanas and pranayama exercises, led by experienced yoga instructors. The serene environment of Allan Border Field provided a perfect backdrop for the event, allowing attendees to immerse themselves in the practice of yoga.

As the sun rose over Brisbane, the collective energy of participants performing yoga symbolised the harmonious blend of mind, body, and spirit. The celebration of the International Day of Yoga not only emphasised the physical benefits of yoga but also its role in achieving mental clarity and emotional stability.

The Consulate General of India expressed gratitude to all participants and dignitaries, especially thanking Councillor Vicki Howard for her support. The successful event reflected the growing popularity of yoga in Queensland and its potential to contribute to a healthier, more balanced lifestyle.

This year’s celebration of the International Day of Yoga at Allan Border Field stands as a testament to the enduring appeal of yoga and its significance in promoting a holistic approach to health and well-being across the globe.

Support Independent Community Journalism

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun exists for one reason: to tell stories that might otherwise go unheard.
We report on local councils, state politics, small businesses and cultural festivals. We focus on the Indian diaspora and the wider multicultural community with care, balance and accountability. We publish in print and online, send regular newsletters and produce video content. We also run media training programs to help community organisations share their own stories.

We operate independently.

Community journalism does not have the backing of large media corporations. Advertising revenue fluctuates. Platform algorithms change. Costs continue to rise. Yet the need for credible, grounded reporting in a multicultural Australia has never been greater.

When you support The Indian Sun, you support:

• Independent reporting on issues affecting migrant communities
• Coverage of local and state decisions that shape daily life
• A platform for small businesses and community groups
• Media training that builds skills within the community
• Journalism accountable to readers

We cannot cover everything, but we work to cover what matters.
