The city of Brisbane came together in a celebration of health and wellness, marking the International Day of Yoga with a vibrant event supported by Councillor Emily Kim and the Consulate General of India. Held on 9 June, the event saw a confluence of yoga enthusiasts and dignitaries, underscoring the growing popularity of yoga in the region.
Organised by Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan (DJJS) Australia, Brisbane branch, the event marked the 10th International Day of Yoga celebration and the 8th year of collaboration with the Calamvale ward. Councillor Emily Kim, a strong advocate for community health and well-being, lent her support to the event, emphasising the importance of integrating yoga into daily life.
The event featured a diverse range of yoga sessions suitable for all levels, from beginners to seasoned practitioners. Experienced yoga instructors guided participants through various asanas and pranayama exercises, highlighting yoga’s holistic benefits. The serene setting provided an ideal atmosphere for attendees to immerse themselves in the practice of yoga.

Mrs. Neetu Bhagotia, the first Consul General of India in Brisbane, was present to support the event. Her dedication to promoting the benefits of yoga and fostering cultural ties between India and Australia was evident throughout the celebrations. “Yoga is not just a form of exercise; it is a journey towards achieving mental clarity and emotional stability,” said Mrs. Bhagotia.
Councillor Emily Kim, in her address, highlighted the significance of yoga in promoting physical and mental well-being. She commended the efforts of the DJJS Australia, Brisbane branch, and the Consulate General of India for their continued commitment to this annual celebration. “It is heartening to see such enthusiastic participation from the community, reflecting a collective commitment to healthier lifestyles,” said Councillor Kim.

Participants of all ages gathered at the event, creating a tapestry of unity and wellness. The morning session began with a tranquil meditation, followed by dynamic yoga sequences that energised the crowd. The inclusive nature of the event allowed everyone, regardless of their yoga experience, to engage meaningfully.
The collaboration between DJJS Australia, Brisbane branch, and the Calamvale ward has been a cornerstone in promoting yoga in the region. This enduring partnership has not only enhanced community engagement but also fostered a deeper understanding of yoga’s transformative potential.

The Consulate General of India expressed heartfelt gratitude to all participants, supporters, and dignitaries, particularly acknowledging Councillor Emily Kim for her unwavering support. The successful event underscored the shared vision of a healthier, more balanced community through the practice of yoga.
As Brisbane celebrated the International Day of Yoga, the event stood as a testament to the universal appeal of yoga and its significance in fostering physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. This year’s celebrations reaffirmed the city’s commitment to embracing holistic health practices and strengthening cultural bonds.
