Well-known chef and restaurateur Sarah Todd was only 21 when her mother Lorraine was diagnosed with breast cancer on her 50th birthday.

“Mum was a single mother who raised three children, worked full time and did everything on her own. I see her as a superwoman. When she got sick, it was a huge shock for her to go from caregiver to the one needing to receive care for the first time.”

Sarah recalls how hard it was to watch her mum undergo chemotherapy treatment, seeing the pain she was in. She says, “Nobody really talks about the fact that losing your hair can cause crazy amounts of pain. Mum felt like her scalp was being stabbed with pins as her hair fell out.”

Sarah knows that without the advances made in breast cancer clinical trials research, it could have been a different outcome for her superwoman mum.

To do her bit towards supporting clinical trials research that aims to save every life from breast cancer, Sarah is joining hands with research organisation Breast Cancer Trials and asking all food lovers to ‘stay in and entertain’ this October with the three-course challenge, a fund-raising event she will be a part of.

This delicious fundraising initiative invites Australians to take on the challenge of cooking a three course Indian feast to raise money for life-saving breast cancer clinical trials research. And all those concerned they don’t have the culinary prowess to pull off a three-course Indian menu, need not worry as they will have Sarah their side.

Sarah is renowned for her sumptuous Indian flavours and has curated a fresh, healthy menu that is sure to appeal to every palette.  All registered 3 Course Challenge participants who raise $150 or more can join Sarah for a livestreamed cooking class, where she will share tips and tricks to ensure their three-course meal will be a delicious success.  They can also interact with Sarah, asking her questions about her menu throughout the livestream.

Registrants are encouraged to share their newfound culinary skills by cooking Sarah’s three course meal for their friends and family following Sarah’s cooking class on Saturday 16 October or any time until 30 November (restrictions permitting).

For Australians currently experiencing lockdown, the great news is that this challenge is done from the safety of your own home. Cooking for your household or hosting a virtual dinner party via a platform like Zoom, are all fun ways to stay active and connected whilst supporting a very worthy cause.

Everyone who signs up for the 3 Course Challenge will be given all the elements they need to make their dinner party a fun feast including access to a music playlist on Spotify, templates for invitations and an Indian trivia quiz, as well as Zoom backgrounds for dinner parties held online.

We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution.
