From hospital, Andrews thanks everyone for love and support

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews, who had a severe fall on Tuesday, offered his warm and “sincere thanks to the many family members, friends, colleagues and Victorians who have sent messages of love and support throughout the day”.

Andrews also thanked Ambulance Victoria paramedics. “Cath, the kids and I are extremely grateful to the Ambulance Victoria paramedics who showed such care and kindness to our family this morning, as we are to the clinicians who have taken care of me today,” a statement from his office read.

The Premier was admitted to hospital after slipping and falling on wet and slippery stairs at a holiday home on the Mornington Peninsula.

A media report said Andrews was at the holiday home preparing to attend a press conference in Healesville, north-east of Melbourne, when he fell.

A CT scan revealed several broken ribs and vertebrae damage. Andrews has been adviced to remain in intensive care for the next few days.

James Merlino will serve as Acting Premier while herecover over the next few days.

The Premier also asked for his family’s privacy to be respected.
