Community Aid Australia Inc celebrates Janmashtami event online

Community Aid Australia Inc (CAAI) held an online community event to celebrate the festival of Janmashtami, which marks the birth of Lord Krishna. Focusing on the Hindu values of compassion, harmony and respect, the festival is celebrated with fasting, singing, praying together, preparing and sharing special food, night vigils and visiting temples. Major organisations and groups organise recitation of holy scriptures ‘’Bhagavatam and Bhagavad Gita”.

Ruchika Rawat, Secretary, CAAI says, “HG Jagannath Ram Prabhu ji from ISKCON gave an inspiring speech on the lessons one can learn from the auspicious festival of Janmashtami. This event was held online with over 160 participants on zoom and broadcast to 22,000 people across Victoria through Facebook live and other social media platforms.”

The event was held with support from the Department of Premier and Cabinet, Government of Victoria. The program brought Victoria’s Hindu communities together to celebrate, preserve and share tradition in a meaningful way, fostered cross-cultural awareness, understanding and respect, and showcased the vibrancy and contribution of the region’s multiculturalism.

On being asked about her favourite quotes from Lord Krishna, she shares a few, hoping to inspire readers:

“Perform your duty without becoming attached to the fruits of the work”

“Control the mind and the senses”

“You reap what you sow”

“Karma is a gift that brings you lessons for your soul’s personal growth and will continue to bring these lessons back around until you have learnt them.”

“Hell has three gates: lust, greed and anger”

“Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is”
