The current global situation owing to the Covid19 pandemic has led to an unprecedented crisis in the financial, personal, physical and mental pursuits of life. Perhaps no one imagined at the beginning of this year what was awaiting and hence, it is even more difficult to cope with. However, there have been some advantages to this situation as well. We have become more sustainable in our choices and have begun to appreciate the little pleasures of life, for instance, the goodness of local markets, riding a bike, spending quality time with family, learning to embrace what our country, state and locality has to offer and appreciating the beauty of nature, birds and bees.

There are also brilliant changes to the natural healing of the environment due to reduced industrialisation and trade activities. This change was the need of the hour due to growing pressure on mother earth with the exploitation of its resources. Nature is currently pressing the reset button so we can take inventory of our real values, our inner desires and about the purpose of life.

Another apparent issue that crops up is the mental well-being of individuals. There is growing pressure on the mental health of people due to recession, financial crisis, relationship issues, prestige issues, health abnormalities, abuse and the list is endless, which has resulted in increased suicidal rates, rise in people consuming antidepressants and having low self-esteem. According to WHO, there are almost 8 lakh people who die due to suicide every year, which is almost 1 person in every 40 seconds. These are alarming figures which give a hint that one needs to swell deeper into the meaning of life.

One can begin to question if happiness is gained solely through material acquisitions or is there something beyond? Is money the determining factor, and if yes, why is it that people with a dream lifestyle are still the loneliest and are overwhelmed with the realities of life? History is evidence that people with massive followers on social media and a huge fan base on social media lack real relationships with people, and this emptiness causes a drought in the heart which cannot be filled with any worldly accomplishment.

Nevertheless, we need to value that each one of us is way more powerful than what we are going through. Our confusions, challenges and problems, pains and heartbreaks are smaller than us, and we have the innate capacity to overcome these emotions. This inner strength to face any situation and be a warrior in the battlefield called life is the strength gained through spiritual practices. These spiritual practices must be very meaningful and filled with the echoes of our inner self which would inspire and motivate us to lead a fulfilling life. Spirituality is a deep science which involves a practice beyond superficial emotions, mental speculation and ritualistic ideologies. It helps one to connect with the innermost longing of the soul or spark of consciousness, and the nature of this soul is to love and to express that love for God through compassion to all beings, including one’s own self.

The most powerful mantra which has helped people transcend the material coverings and attain pure spiritual bliss is the Hare Krishna Maha-mantra: Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare/Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare. The Hare Krishna mantra is a spiritual sound vibration, which is nourishment for the inner self

There are four common problems to all living entities—birth, death, disease and old age and the human form of life is especially privileged to have the opportunity to cease this cycle of repetition. A sincere spiritual seeker would attempt to find a permanent solution to these real issues of life with his intelligence and wisdom. While one can be a moral person who is peaceful, pious and everything nice, but without a strong spiritual sense and penetrating the actual depth of the soul’s existence, we cannot develop the strength to go beyond the vulnerability of this material body.

All spiritual paths of the world teach this basic principle to love God. There can be difference in detail, but the underlying essence remains the same—teaching us true spiritual character leading to self-transformation and converting anxiety into peace, arrogance into humility, envy into compassion and awakening the pure soul within each living being.

The best form of spirituality is connecting to God through the chanting of His beautiful names. It is easy, practical and possible for anyone to incorporate this practice in one’s daily life. Mantras are spiritual sounds used to elevate the mind from the material consciousness and get grounded in the spiritual strata. The Hare Krishna mantra is a spiritual sound vibration, which is like nourishment for the inner self. It allows us to associate with Krishna or God directly and because God is not different from His name, so His names are transcendentally powerful and are celebrated by all religious traditions.

It is said in the ancient Vedic scriptures that the potency necessary for developing complete inner fulfilment (physical, emotional and mental) is present in the chanting of the Hare Krishna mantra, which is the most powerful remedy to attain immediate relief from all the ill-effects of this present age of quarrel and hypocrisy. The founder of the Hare Krishna movement, Srila Prabhupada, explains: “We have practical experience that any person who is chanting the holy names of Krishna (Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare) in due course of time feels some transcendental pleasure and very quickly becomes purified of all material contamination.” This universal chant for peace can be done by anyone from any religion, race, colour, caste or creed. There are no fees to chant the mantra and can be done at any time.

So, try this chant for peace and experience the blissful result!
