Australian Supplier Payment Code

Wyndham City is leading the way when it comes to good business practices, becoming the first Council in Australia to sign the Australian Supplier Payment Code.

By signing the Code, Council has pledged to pay eligible small business suppliers within 30 days of receiving a correct invoice and to help suppliers implement new technologies and practices to speed up invoicing.

The Code is at the centre of a new age of cooperation between businesses—big and small—and was launched by the Business Council of Australia.

CEO of the Business Council, Jennifer Westacott, praised Wyndham City’s decision to become the first Council in Australia to sign the Code.

“We are urging every organisation that depends on small business suppliers—from suburban builders and local Councils to multinational companies—to follow Wyndham City’s example and sign up”

“Wyndham City is showing national leadership by becoming the first Council to commit to the Australian Supplier Payment Code,” Ms Westacott said.

“We are urging every organisation that depends on small business suppliers—from suburban builders and local Councils to multinational companies—to follow Wyndham City’s example and sign up,” she added.

The Code now has more than 40 signatories with annual revenue of more than $374 billion, including the nation’s biggest construction, banking and resources companies.

Wyndham City’s Future Focused Economy portfolio holder, Cr Walter Villagonzalo, said the code was not just about paying small businesses within 30 days of receiving a correct invoice.

“With more than 90 per cent of Wyndham businesses employing less than four people, Council recognises the importance of small business in creating a vibrant and sustainable local economy that provides employment to Wyndham residents,” Cr Villagonzalo said, adding that the code also obliges the council to give a helping hand to smaller businesses so that they can improve their systems and create more efficient and faster invoicing.

“With cash flow a critical element to business success and growth, I am pleased that Wyndham City has led the way in committing to the Australian Supplier Payment Code. I would encourage all local businesses to get on board and follow our lead,” Cr Villagonzalo added.
