Dancer, mentor, model, and Bollymama, Francesca McMillan tells The Indian Sun how she keeps the rhythm going, both in life and on the dance floor

Mrs Australia Universe 2014 and Young Community Achiever of the Year finalist for the IABCA 2016—Awards, Francesca McMillan is a South Australian community leader, who though born in Australia, comes from a diverse heritage of Fiji Indian and Italian backgrounds.

Although she holds a double degree in Commerce and Administrative Management and worked in the education system for many years, she believes her “Fiji Indian and Italian blood” came to the fore, which led her to establish Fusion Beats Dance.

Adelaide-based Francesca, who is the Bollywood Dance and Creative Director of Fusion Beats Dance specialising in choreography and cultural arts education, says she dons many hats, and over the years, has understood how to do it with ease.

In 2014, Francesca took part in a Melbourne pageant and took the title of Ms Personality 2014 as well as the crown of Mrs Australia Universe 2014 and went to Malaysia to take part in the Mrs Universe coming in the Top 15 in the world, and winning the crown of Ms Delicate 2014.

In 2015, Francesca was a pageant director for the Australasia and Pacific Islands Pageant. Her strength in training and mentoring has seen all the delegates continuing their charity work, achieving more than they thought possible.

Francesca is now considered one of the leading Bollywood choreographers and teachers on social media reaching over 1 million views in the ‘Fusion Beats Dance’ Youtube channel in countries such as India, Pakistan, UK, Bangladesh and the United States of America. “I was the first to bring the Australian twist of Bollywood to the world with weekly online tutorials, Bollywood and Western dance covers, flashmobs and performances and more,” says Francesca.

Fusion Beats Dance breaks down the cultural barriers of dance and brings people together in a fun and educational way. “Fusion Beats Dance brings fun and magic into people’s lives by offering unique and vibrant Bollywood dance classes and workshops,” says Francesca, who is known for her versatility in dance—fusing Western styles such as Jjazz, contemporary, Hip Hop, and Reggaeton, with Indian dance.

Francesca is also known as a ‘Bollywood Mum’ and shares her wealth of knowledge from her experiences throughout her life on her blog.

One of the founding members of Diversity & Empowerment, as well as a committee member of the Asia Pacific Business Council for Women Inc and Australian Ambassador for Queens Without Scars, Francesca says that most of all she is a mum who wants to follow in her mother’s footsteps.

“I love mentoring young women and children and am an ambassador for various charities, foundations and festivals. I want to give back to the community,” says Francesca, who is also an MC, managing cultural events.
