Wyndham Council invites residents to learn about disability insurance scheme
Wyndham residents with disabilities and their families are being invited to learn more about the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) in a series of information sessions.
Ahead of the full rollout of the NDIS, Wyndham City will be hosting two free sessions to provide information on the national scheme, how it works and how to best prepare for changes.
Wyndham City’s Portfolio Holder for Disability, Ageing and Inclusion, Cr Michelle Wharrie, said it was important for residents to be briefed on what to expect before the arrival of the NDIS.
“The $22 billion NDIS, one of the largest social policy reforms in Australia’s history, will be rolled out in Wyndham in July this year,” Cr Wharrie said.
“The NDIS will bring a lot of positive changes for people with disabilities and their families. It will allow people to choose which services they want and which organisations they want to deliver these services,” she explained.
Cr Wharrie said added that for people with disabilities and their families to take full advantage of the changes, it is important that they know exactly what the NDIS could mean for them, which is why the Council is hosting these free information sessions so residents can learn how the NDIS works, how services will change and what it means to have an insurance model.
Speakers at the sessions include Jacqui Pearce, a Director and Principal Consultant at Jacqueline Pierce and Associates, and Leanne Napper, an NDIS Transitions Manager at Karingal.
“Wyndham’s residents with disability contribute a great deal to our community and it is exciting that Council is able to offer these free sessions for their benefit,” Cr Wharrie said.
An afternoon session will be held on Tuesday, 14 June at Wyndham Park Community Centre, 55-57 Kookaburra Avenue, Hoppers Crossing from 6 to 8.30pm. A morning session will be held on Thursday, 16 June at the Civic Centre, 45 Princes Highway, Werribee from 10am to 12.30pm.

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. However, the past few years, like many media organisations around the world, it has not been an easy path. We have a greater challenge. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution. Do make a DONATION NOW so we can continue with the volume and quality journalism that we are able to practice.

Thank you for your support.

Best wishes,
Team The Indian Sun
