Deakin squad to add cheer to Festival of Colours
Members of the Deakin University Cheerleading Club are an excited lot as they will be performing at the Festival of Colours, hosted by the Festivals of South Asia Inc, on Saturday 19 March.
Deakin Cheer is a university-based sporting club founded in 2007, and currently has more than 180 members across 6 “cheerleading” teams and 5 “dance” teams. Deakin Cheer is a not-for-profit university club run by a student body affiliated with the Deakin University Student Association (DUSA).
Cheerleading is one of the fastest growing sports in Australia. As the sport continues to grow, so does the Deakin Cheer club. In 2015, the club accumulated 2 winning bids for their Pom team, Topaz and Hip Hop Team, Onyx, will represent Deakin University at the Cheerleading and Dance Worlds championships in Orlando, Florida this coming April. Onyx has been welcomed with the opportunity to be ‘Team Australia’in the ICU cheerleading Worlds competition representing Australia. This is the Olympics of Cheerleading/Dance and only one team is chosen per genre.
In November, members of the squad will be taking off to Queensland to compete in the National Championships.

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. However, the past few years, like many media organisations around the world, it has not been an easy path. We have a greater challenge. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution. Do make a DONATION NOW so we can continue with the volume and quality journalism that we are able to practice.

Thank you for your support.

Best wishes,
Team The Indian Sun
