Black harmony gathering on 13 March

The Good Deed film showing and interactive session will take place on 24 March

In partnership with the Warrior Spirit Collective, Multicultural Arts Victoria (MAV) is back with the annual Black Harmony Gathering on Sunday, 13 March, 1pm-5pm. The show, which is completely free of cost, will be held at Fairfield Amphitheatre, and The Good Deed Film Showing and Q&A on Thursday, 24 March, 6pm-8pm, at the Fitzroy Town Hall.

The event will feature a smoking ceremony and Koori Dance by The Koori Youth Will Shake Spears. The Black Harmony Gathering will also feature multi-talented Mutti Mutti song man Kutcha Edwards, a seven-piece high energy roots reggae band Rasta Unity, Samoan dance specialists Tama Tatau, African Star Drumming and Dance in collaboration with performer and artist Matthew Weegberg of Mutti Mutti and Boonwurrung heritage, performances by young MCs from Artful Dodges Studio, and the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre Music Group made of members from around the globe.

An exciting spread too awaits those who attend the show — a Koori BBQ with emu and kangaroo sausages from Warburton run by members of the Warrior Spirt Arts Collective, delicious food served from the kiosk onsite – as well as a range of kids’ activities. Black Harmony Gathering coincides with Victoria’s Cultural Diversity Week, 12-20 March, an annual opportunity for all Victorians to come together and share friendship and culture.

The Good Deed Film Showing and Q&A features Robbie Thorpe as Uncle Lucky and Kynan Brown as Tyrone, an 11-year-old delinquent runaway Aboriginal street kid. This short film tells a contemporary story exploring how the two live in everyday urban Melbourne, questioning what culture and traditions they can hold onto and what the future can bring.

The event is supported by the City of Yarra and Creative Victoria.

Donate To The Indian Sun

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. However, the past few years, like many media organisations around the world, it has not been an easy path. We have a greater challenge. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution. Do make a DONATION NOW so we can continue with the volume and quality journalism that we are able to practice.

Thank you for your support.

Best wishes,
Team The Indian Sun
