Chandana Kasargod says she not only wants to train her students in Bharatanatyam but help with their personality development too

A graded artiste of Doordarshan and a sought after compere for programmes of dance and music, Chandana Kasargod has travelled widely in the country as a dancer and a nattuvanar rendering group performances and solo concerts at prestigious platforms.  For her contribution, she has been conferred the state “Nav Kiran” Achievement Award by Yog Federation of India.

Chandana’s inclination for Bharatanatyam came naturally at a very young age. Hailing from a family of music and dance connoisseurs, she had her initial training under gurus Vasanthalakshmi and Sangeetha Keshav. Her passion for the art and her inherent talent were recognized and finely developed  by her guru, veteran danseuse and creative exponent, Dr Padmaja Suresh of Aatmalaya, Bengaluru. She also undertook lessons in abhinaya under well known guru Bhanumati of Nritya Kalamandiram.

“I want to explore the nuances of this wonderful and spiritual form of art and showcase them before the young aspiring minds making way for innovative interpretations,” says Chandana. She continues the tradition of the Tanjavur School of dance, which has produced some of the world’s best known Bharatanatyam dancers.

She holds a masters degree in English Literature and has featured talks in All India Radio that have received wide acclamation.

Chandana takes immense pride in being a member of a family of literary and social achievers – her mother, Bharathi Kasargod is a Kannada Sahithya Academy Award winner; her maternal grandfather, Samethanahalli Ramarao, a distinguished kannada writer and scholar; and her great grandfather, Sri. Rangarao Kasargod, a visionary and founder of New English School, Honnavar.

She recently established the Sindhubhairavi Centre for Indian Arts and Culture in Melbourne, which not only imparts training to students in dance but facilitates personality development through yoga, meditation and activities.
