Indian-born music producer Ajay Bisht talks about his musical connection and collaborations
Ajay Bisht started his career in India’s own la-la land – Bollywood — producing background scores for films, as well as music for advertisements, songs, and tele-films.
Bisht, who relocated to Australia in 2010, says the migration was an opportunity to explore western artists and collaborations. “Living here has brought me closer than ever to my music,” says Bisht, who made his background score debut in Bollywood with the Govinda-Raveena starrer ‘Dhule Raja’ (1998). Bisht has worked in several other Hindi film too like Aunty No.1, Parwana, Naseeb, Insaaf -The Justice, Kaun Hai Jo Sapnon Mein Aaya, Souten – The Other Woman, Market, Chaahat – Ek Nasha, and Strangers.
2010, the year he moved to Australia, was a landmark time for Bisht because that was when he won the Best Background Score award at the PTC Punjabi Film Awards for singer Mika Singh’s debut film, ‘Mitti’. “After migrating to Australia, I got an opportunity to explore western artists. In 2014, I co-produced two back-to-back singles for artistes in the US. The first was a debut R&B single ‘Didn’t I’ by Maxine Jones, former original member of the American multi-platinum girl band En Vogue,” says Bisht, whose second release was “Running Man” by Daze, currently on heavy radio rotation worldwide and which also won the Akademia Awards 2014 – Los Angeles, in the Best HipHop/Rap/Soul category.
Bisht was recently named one of the judges for the ‘Colors Australia Talent Hunt’ for the reality show ‘India’s Got Talent’. “It was nice to judge a reality show and that too away from home country. Sydney has got so much talent and I got to witness some of it,” says Bisht.
He has also produced a Punjabi-Russian album ‘Devoushka’ as well as an Indo-Australian fusion album entitled ’Full Moon’, mastered in Sydney by Grammy winning engineer William Bowden.
Bisht says his musical interests steer towards urban, dance pop, Bollywood, hip-hop, R&B and EDM.
Ajay’s upcoming Australian release ’Here We Go’ by Cody Xeru, is a dance popanthem which will be available on digital platforms soon.
