Travel expert Shireen Malani Vaswani says holidays are more about the experience not just the destination
“Anyone can leave the comforts of their home to visit a foreign locale, but that doesn’t necessarily count as travelling. You can travel, but if you don’t have or seek out experiences, you aren’t really ‘travelling’,” says Shireen Malani Vaswani, who has worked in the travel industry for more than 30 years.
Her wide experience has helped her carve her own niche in the travel industry. “I love holidays and that makes it easier to help people create perfect ones,” says Shireen, who started her career in the travel industry in Mumbai with Japan Airlines. After her wedding to Mahesh, she moved to Delhi where she joined Gulf Air.
Shireen, her husband and son, migrated to Australia in 1986, and she joined Air India, and continued working with them till Air India discontinued flights from Australia in 1991.
After that, she joined the Travel House Group, and since then has been offering her clients her expert advice on tourism. “I help people from anywhere in Australia with the best airfares to India and the rest of the world without any delays,” she says, and adds that her company partners with travel companies in India and specialize in overland tours and hotels in India, Nepal and Sri Lanka. “We are a strong supporter of QBE Travel Insurance and are happy to help with any Insurance inquiries,” says Shireen.
In terms of travel trends, Shireen says that cruising has become one of the most popular modes of travel. “We work closely with the major cruise liners,” she says.
“I am a people person, and enjoy helping people out with their travel plans. I love my job! I have travelled a lot and love exploring new places,” says Shireen, who adds that her love for travel stems from her family holidays.
“We are six siblings, and for the last ten years, we have made a routine of visiting India at least once a year. Then we all plan a trip, ‘Beyond India’, and now that has become a part of our lives,” says Shireen, who adds that the family has travelled together Rome, Egypt, Turkey, Spain, Morocco, Scandinavia, and Sindh (Pakistan), the place the family originally comes from,” she adds.
Shireen says that as a family they like to explore destinations that are not very popular, because there is so much to discover in those places. “It is not a hard and fast rule, but still, we like to pick the less travelled road,” she says.
