On behalf of the Victoria Police I would like to express my best wishes to everyone celebrating Diwali.

Celebrations of Diwali this year begin from 1 November onwards with the main celebration of Laxmi Puja (Goddess of wealth and prosperity) on Sunday, 3 November. This festival brings friends, neighbors, and communities together to share the things we value most in life – harmony, peace and understanding.

For many cultures the New Year represents an opportunity for the initiation of new ventures and Diwali is no exception. It is a time to look forward with excitement and hope to the entire New Year of opportunity and a time to reflect on how we create a better future.

Victoria Police acknowledges diverse ethnic and cultural heritage as a valuable asset, representing diversity with an opportunity where we all can live, work and build our ethos with inclusiveness, mutual respect and co-operation to bring us all together with different faiths and beliefs.

So let us continue to work together to encourage and promote mutual understanding and acceptance to build a caring, safe and generous society.

“DIWALI KI SHUBHKAMNAYEN”
“A VERY HAPPY AND PROSPEROUS DIWALI”

Mr. Ken D Lay APM
Chief Commissioner of Police,
Victoria Police

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. However, the past few years, like many media organisations around the world, it has not been an easy path. We have a greater challenge. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution. Do make a DONATION NOW so we can continue with the volume and quality journalism that we are able to practice.

Thank you for your support.

Best wishes,
Team The Indian Sun
