Adding a new achievement to his growing repertoire, Shourya Nidhi received the ‘Young person of the year’ award from the Governor of New South Wales, Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO, and Mark Coure, Member of Oatley at the St. George Community Awards ceremony on 24 October.

Shourya is among the first people from an Indian background to receive this award.

Mark Coure was overwhelmed with the response of the public during the award ceremony “We’ve received over 70 nominations to recognise those in the St George region who have contributed to making our area a better place,” said Mark Coure.

“I’m absolutely delighted at the many volunteers and community groups out there who work hard at what they do. The spirit of volunteerism and civic service is strong in the St George region, and we ought to go out of our way to celebrate it,” he added.

The Governor of New South Wales, Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO, presented the awards at the ceremony.
“This is the third year these awards have been running, and the Governor’s presence shows just how prestigious they are becoming,” said Mark Coure.

Shourya Nidhi is a powerhouse performer with an unmatchable energy and undying enthusiasm. Shourya has done many modelling assignments including MARC Clothing in Australia and others in New Zealand and India to name a few. He was also one of the stars of Chetna ki Ghadi, a prime time television series on Sony TV.

Coming to the world of films and theatre, Shourya has also tried his hand at script-writing, direction and editing. His short film ‘Perish’, acting in his directorial venture Bandhak, and his valuable assistance in the production of the Aussie-Bollywood film Flight to Bollywood have established him as a true artist.

He was adjudged the winner of best actor award at Indradhanush-Festival of Plays organised by Abhinay School of Performing Arts on the occasion of Hindi Diwas. He has also co-ordinated weekend intensive writing workshops with Alex Broun.

His play ‘The Hostage’, written and directed by him, made it to the Top 90 at the Short+Sweet, Sydney 2012. As an actor in the play, Shourya’s performance received critical appreciation.

He recently appeared in Raghunandan Gudur’s Telegu film, NRI (Now return to India).

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. However, the past few years, like many media organisations around the world, it has not been an easy path. We have a greater challenge. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution. Do make a DONATION NOW so we can continue with the volume and quality journalism that we are able to practice.

Thank you for your support.
