It’s time then to participate in Celebrate India’s new singing contest

Celebrate India’s Diwali celebrations return for a tenth consecutive year, with the Victorian Festival of Lights festivities beginning on 27 October and running through to 7 November. The grand finale of the celebrations will held across two days – 6 and 7 November – at the iconic Federation Square.

But this year the celebrations begin earlier than usual as Celebrate India is hosting a Sing for Diwali competition. Entries for the contest begin on 10 September all the way to 10 October. So, here’s your chance to perform in Australia’s biggest Diwali celebrations at Federation Square.

All you have to do is record yourself singing a Bollywood song of your choice for one minute and complete the sentence “I enjoy Diwali because…” on your smartphone or any other smart device.

There are categories for trained as well as amateur singers in the under 14 and over 14 years. All videos will be automatically considered for the People’s Choice special category, which will be decided based on the most number of ‘likes’ on the Celebrate India Facebook page.

Participants can send their entries via whatsapp (0434 044 455) or through the Facebook message board on the official Celebrate India page with your full name, age, contact number, email id and the chosen category.

Video entries will be uploaded on the celebrate India official FB page where they can be viewed, shared and “liked”.

Public voting and independent judges’ verdict will be combined to select the winners in each category, which will then invited to sing on state and presented with the prize by a famous international singer.

Celebrate India Inc. is a Victorian, not for profit, community organization, established to facilitate better understanding of Indian culture and its diversity among wider Australian community through the means of celebrating its major festivals.

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. However, the past few years, like many media organisations around the world, it has not been an easy path. We have a greater challenge. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution. Do make a DONATION NOW so we can continue with the volume and quality journalism that we are able to practice.
