Raksha Bandhan, the Indian festival that celebrates, reinforces and strengthens the sacred bond between a brother and a sister, is an occasion most awaited by siblings. But sometimes, distance can get in the way of celebration. Most of the times when rakhis along with sweets are sent from India or from some other countries they are not delivered because of the threat of bio-security and are destroyed by the custom officers. Not getting rakhis on this day is not only painful for brothers but it leaves sisters in agony.

Though times have changed, the ways of celebrating have remained the same. This occasion has its own vibes and is celebrated by tying a holy thread around the wrist of the brother,” says Shah.
Shah adds that when he came to Australia in 2008, he was not able to receive the rakhi his sister had posted to him. “I also heard of such incidents from different parts of the country. Sometimes due to security reasons and bio-security threats customs doesn’t let the stuff through. Rakesh and I then came up with rakhi.com.au, a portal from where you can send rakhi, sweets, chocolates etc to friends and families online,” he adds.
“We provide special service to the Indian community to send gifts to Australia. We are selling rakhis, gifts for Diwali, Holi, Bahi Dooj, Karva Chauth and other religious festivals. But response for Rakhi and Diwali is quite good,” he says.
The site offers a variety of rachis including chandan rakhi, zardosi rakhi, divine rakhi, Dora rakhi, and sone rakhi. The delivery time in major cities is around two days and for rural areas it is around three days. “Most customers are from India and USA, though we receive a good number of orders from Australia as well,” he adds.
For Diwali, the gift selection on the site includes haar mala, handicraft wall hangings, wallets and sarees.
