Wherever Hindus live, they contribute immensely in the field of economy, science, technology, health, administration, education and culture. Hindus have been at the forefront of strengthening democracy by actively practicing pluralism as well as safeguarding human rights of all citizens. Vishva Hindu Parishad of Australia believes in the ideals of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (world is one family) and has been actively serving the community.

It is towards this end that the organisation will host its 6th Australian National Hindu Conference at the Adelaide Convention Centre, North Terrace, on 9 September 2017 at Adelaide.

Hindu Dharma, Samskar’s and culture is a unifying factor. Diversity in traditions, languages, diet, dress, art and customs are held together by a social structure, which provides the extraordinary cohesive force around which Hindu culture gravitates ‘Seva’ (selfless service) is a core value that under pins Hindu dharma and society.

The sixth National Hindu Conference hopes to provide a platform to the Hindu community to organise itself on the foundation of bonding, sharing, sustaining, networking, collaborating and organising to achieve the objective of strengthening Australia.

The conference will be of interest to those who are keen to learn about organising communities and serving society; volunteers who are interested in various models of volunteering as well as community development and leaders who would like to form networks with other communities and other organisations.

It will also be of interest to community development practitioners and academicians who may wish to observe or work with specific community organisation.

One of the goals of this conference is to provide a platform and to bring together all Hindu volunteers, organisations, associations, and temples currently contributing to organise the society. The other objective is to collectively show case our contributions, our selfless volunteering spirit and our achievements, to the wider Australian community.

The conference will include sessions on: Hindu Temples – serving the Australian Community as a place of learning and socio-cultural activities/awakening; important role played by Hindu Organisations and Associations in serving Australia; serving the community through youth development, nourishing young minds to shape future generation of leaders; serving the people in need and taking care of elders; and bridging the gap among the Hindus coming from different countries.

Individual delegates, volunteers and leaders of organisations, temples and associations are welcome to send their interest regarding participation in the Conference either as a group or individual to the Conference Coordinator by email at conference2017@vhpsa.org.au. Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. However, the past few years, like many media organisations around the world, it has not been an easy path. We have a greater challenge. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution. Do make a DONATION NOW so we can continue with the volume and quality journalism that we are able to practice.

Thank you for your support.

Best wishes,
Team The Indian Sun
