Paramedics attending a car accident in Melton this week were told there were no other ambulances available in the entire western part of Melbourne, but Denis Napthine still can’t admit our ambulance system is in crisis, says Labor MP Jill Hennessy.
Mr Napthine, asked about the case during question time, refused to acknowledge the victims of the ambulance crisis, says Ms Hennessy.
Under Denis Napthine, more people are waiting longer for an ambulance. Response times are worsening every year, she adds.
According to Ms Hennessy, in Parliament too, Mr Napthine ignored a question about his attempts to suppress important data about the ambulance system’s flagging performance. “This is information the Victorian public have a right to know.“You can’t trust the Liberals with your health system – under Denis Napthine, you’re on your own,” she says.
Across the state, ambulance response times have consistently failed to reach the benchmark and have worsened every year. At present, one in four emergencies aren’t attended by an ambulance within the deadline, says Ms Hennessy.
