Amarjit Singh Batra, CEO—OLX India

He turned OLX India into the largest online classifieds marketplace in the country with his vision, and mantra “Stay hungry, stay foolish”.

Amarjit Singh Batra, currently the Chief Executive Officer of OLX India, a company he has helmed for eight years, has come a long way, just like his brand.

In 2005, Steve Jobs delivered the commencement speech for the 114th graduating class at Stanford University, in which he said “Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish”. Batra says he listened to the speech over and over and made those words his mantra. He says his challenge is to be hungry, to do more.

Heading a company of more than 200 employees, Batra entered the internet scene in 2000. He began his journey building marketplaces in the business to business space, working at the time for Bazee (which was acquired by eBay). I He joined OLX in 2008, which he describes as a “high utility tool for buying and selling pre-owned goods online”.

As for his free time, Batra says he loves to play sports, especially squash, a game which he says, makes physically and mentally strong. He will deliver the keynote address on ‘Building OLX—India’s leading market place’ at the 7th Indian Executive Club Awards on 18 November.

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. However, the past few years, like many media organisations around the world, it has not been an easy path. We have a greater challenge. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution. Do make a DONATION NOW so we can continue with the volume and quality journalism that we are able to practice.

Thank you for your support.

Best wishes,
Team The Indian Sun
