SydWest Multicultural Services and partner organisations from across Blacktown have come together to host a special event to celebrate and promote men’s and boys’ health
SydWest Multicultural Services has collaborated with Blacktown Family Relationship Centre, Blacktown City Council, Marist 180, Blacktown Police, Department of Human Service—Blacktown, MTC, SSI, Family Referral, TAFE, Ability link and Reach for Training to deliver a fun and informative session for men and boys of the area.
The Blacktown International Men’s and Boys’ Day is being held Friday, 24 November from 10am to 2pm at PCYC, 30 Second Avenue, Blacktown. There will be many sporting activities, some guest speakers to promote and inspire the themes of the day and a free BBQ for everyone. The aims of International Men’s Day include a focus on health, improving gender relations, promoting gender equality, and highlighting positive male role models. It is an occasion for men to celebrate their achievements and contributions, in particular their contributions to community, family, marriage, and childcare while highlighting the discrimination against them.
SydWest Multicultural Services CEO, Elfa Moraitakis is encouraging men and young men of all backgrounds to join in this important event: “We are excited to be working with so many dedicated local organisations to celebrate men’s and boys’ health, as part of International Men’s Day. We know that men do not look after their health and wellbeing and as a result, they deteriorate easier than women in almost every part of the world—their life expectancy is also much lower than women’s—women, on a worldwide basis, live 5 years longer than men!”
