Snake slithering through your yard? Who you gonna call? Wyndham Council!

The snake removal program provided by Wyndham City Council will continue, said Wyndham City’s Environment and Sustainability Portfolio Holder Cr Heather Marcus, who added that the service was well-used.

“We have provided the snake removal service for almost 25 years, despite it not actually being one of Council’s core responsibilities,” Cr Marcus said.

“The most common snake sightings in Wyndham are Tiger snakes, however it is not unusual to receive reports of Brown snakes”

“But with homes being built in areas that are quite open, it is common to have snakes around. The most common snake sightings in Wyndham are Tiger snakes, however it is not unusual to receive reports of Brown snakes,” she added.

From October 2015 to June 2016 Council received 173 calls for snake removal, costing the Council $12,200. From July 2016 to June 2017, a total of 272 calls were received, costing $32,450.

“If you find a snake on your property, remove any pets and watch the snake from a safe distance. Do not approach it,” Cr Marcus said, adding, “If a snake is found on a residential property and is visible, a qualified professional snake catcher engaged by Wyndham City can remove the snake from the property.”

The service is provided free of charge to Wyndham residents, and can be access by calling 9742 0777.

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. However, the past few years, like many media organisations around the world, it has not been an easy path. We have a greater challenge. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution. Do make a DONATION NOW so we can continue with the volume and quality journalism that we are able to practice.

Thank you for your support.

Best wishes,
