Aryana Sayeed is perhaps the biggest superstar in the Afghan music industry

Aryana Sayeed is not only a superstar but a role model for millions of young Afghan women around the world.

Aryana’s music videos have obtained millions of views on YouTube and she is the first Afghan female singer to have had this success on youtube, and has the largest number of followers of any Afghan artist on Instagram. Her Facebook fan page is within the top category of Afghan Artists worldwide.

Aryana is also credited as the first Afghan artiste of the new generation to have brought back “live performance” inside Afghanistan where previously playback performances were a common occurrence.

In addition to writing and composing her own songs, Aryana is also credited with being the first Afghan artiste whose songs have been broadcasted internationally on TV channels such as MTV World, B4U, BBC World, and Al Jazeera. Aryana was the host of Shab-e-Mosiqi (Music Night) on 1TV Afghanistan and served as one of the judges in Voice of Afghanistan 2013 on Tolo TV. She then returned for the third series of the show, as a judge. In 2015 she also served as one of the judges in Afghan Star, the Afghan version of American Idol.

Aryana, born to a Dari-speaking mother and a Pashto-speaking father, left Afghanistan at a very young age. After initially migrating to Pakistan, Aryana and her family eventually settled in Europe where after a few years of residing in Switzerland, Aryana moved to London, England, which is her current home.

From a young age, she was passionate about music and singing. Aryana joined a choir during her school years in Switzerland. After successfully graduating as a business administrator from college in London, Aryana decided to pursue a career in the music industry.

Despite facing many challenges in the first couple of years of pursing her passion, the decision finally paid off when Aryana’s talent was recognized through winning multiple awards as an Afghan female artiste. In her short career, Aryana has already won numerous awards, including Best Female Artiste of the Year, Best Live Performer, Best Song of the Year, Best Video of the Year, Best Afghan Woman Icon, etc. In 2013, Aryana was granted the title of “Star of Voice” (Sitara-e Aawaaz) by the International Afghan Artists Association.

Aryana is also known and respected for her humanitarian activities such as charity concerts, openly defending the rights of Afghan women and also raising awareness of the ongoing social issues and challenges within Afghanistan. She is considered an idol for many new and upcoming Afghan female artistes and Afghan girls in general and her songs and videos are known for their message of peace, love, unity and social awareness.

Aryana, a fashionista, rarely gets a look wrong. She has even given the traditional Afghan dress a new modern twist. No wonder she has fans from ages 6 to 60.
