Community leader Rohitas Batta was one among three other community leaders who briefed the new Principal Immigration Officer for India about the concerns and needs of the Indian community in Australia. After being contacted by the community liaison group of the Department of Immigration, Dr. Batta, Dr Yadu Singh and Mr. Subbu Rao briefed the newly appointed Principal Immigration Officer on the impact of the current visa regulations for the Indian community. There is a need for immigration authorities to be more sensitive to the community’s requirements on student visas, 457 visa anomalies, parent and tourist visas etc, he said to The Indian Sun.
Dr Batta also emphasised that problems like domestic violence are on the rise in the Indian community. Visa and residency problems that many migrants face contribute to the family and other stresses that newly arrived Indians face, he said.
Rohitas has been actively serving the community for more than a decade. He has played leadership roles in several community associations and launched a few of the organizations to meet the demands of the community. Dr Batta expects a more sensitive visa regime to come into effect.
