Wyndham City has elected Cr Peter Maynard to take on the top job of Mayor for the next 12 months at a Statutory Council Meeting on Wednesday, 22 November

It will be the second time Cr Maynard has held the position, having previously held the position in 2014/15. First-time Councillor Walter Villagonzalo was also elected to the position of Deputy Mayor.

“Wyndham has been my home for more than 35 years, so it is with a great sense of pride and duty that I take on the position of Mayor for the second time,” Cr Maynard said.

“Our municipality faces many challenges, including dealing with our rapidly growing population, and I’m excited to work hard over the next year to try and deliver the best results for Wyndham,” he added.

“I’d like to thank my family and friends, in particular my wife Lucie and our four children, for all the support they have given me during my time as a Councillor and for encouraging me to take on the challenge of being Mayor of our great City again,” Cr Maynard said.

“I’d also like to thank my fellow Councillors for the faith they have placed in me. I look forward to continuing to work with them to deliver results for Wyndham residents,” he said. “Congratulations must also go to Cr Henry Barlow and Cr Kim McAliney who served us well as Mayor and Deputy Mayor over the last 12 months.”

Over the next year we will be focusing on some major projects like the redevelopment of Wyndham Park into a space than can host large public events, the redevelopment of the Werribee City Centre, the activation of activity centres, our Smart City program that will see us harness new technologies to make Wyndham more efficient, the development of our local economy and the start of vital road duplications throughout the municipality,” he said.

Cr Maynard is Council’s Sports Development portfolio holder, which covers sports facilities, active lifestyle, new and emerging sports and club strengthening. As Mayor of the City of Wyndham he will also take on the portfolio of Growth and Transport.

Deputy Mayor, Cr Walter Villagonzalo, is Council’s Future Focused Economy portfolio holder, which covers employment, industry attraction and business development.
