Wida Tausif catches up with Faraz Karachiwala, founder and CEO of DPTV

He is the man behind DPTV and the face of Doodh Patti. He is also a voice for the community. Born in Karachi, Pakistan, Karachiwala migrated to Australia two years ago. Today, his Melbourne-based online TV channel promotes diversity in Australia, while bringing in the latest news from around the world.

Who is your role model, and why?

My role model is Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. He is a true example for all Pakistanis because he liberated Pakistan from British rule through true diplomacy.

Tell us about a project you consider the most significant in your career.

Well, I have played an important role in turning around different organizations, but I’m also known for leaving jobs simply because they don’t challenge me in any way.

DPTV is supposedly the first Pakistani online TV Channel in Australia.

We have never claimed that DPTV is a Pakistani channel. Yes, the management is mostly of Pakistani origin. We are proud of it but DPTV’s goal is more towards being the first multicultural community TV channel in Australia.

We have heard DPTV is expanding with two brand new TV shows from different communities.

DPTV’s motive is to have all the communities on one page for the betterment of society. We are getting into exploring different communities, and are starting with shows for the Afghani and Indian communities.

In Australia, there is a communication gap between different communities and less avenues to work together. Community associations need to liaise with each other and that’s what I hope DPTV can do.

How do you stay motivated through tough times?

I tend to listen to Sufi Kalam a lot including the songs of Qawwali singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. It motivates me.

Do you have a work philosophy?

Yes, I don’t do anything unless I enjoy doing it.

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. However, the past few years, like many media organisations around the world, it has not been an easy path. We have a greater challenge. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution. Do make a DONATION NOW so we can continue with the volume and quality journalism that we are able to practice.

Thank you for your support.

Best wishes,
Team The Indian Sun
