New Health Clinic to help Wyndham’s youth
Wyndham City is placing a spotlight on the health and wellbeing of some of Wyndham’s most vulnerable residents, with a new youth health clinic being established.
The clinic has been developed in partnership with the Hampstead Drive Medical Centre and is located at Wyndham Youth Resource Centre in Hoppers Crossing.
Wyndham City’s Youth portfolio holder and Chaffey Ward Councillor, Marie Brittan, said young people made up a large section of the municipality’s community.
“Our youth population is growing rapidly, with over 32,000 young people calling Wyndham home,” Cr Brittan said. “This population is expected to grow to 57,000 by 2031. This means that the demand for health care services for young people is also increasing,” she added.
Cr Brittan said the service had been developed in response to issues raised by young people throughout Wyndham, and added that the Council is committed to ensuring that young people have access to timely and responsive health care services that meet their unique needs.
“We’ve heard from young people that they have had difficulty finding a youth-friendly medical service in Wyndham. Many young people have also told Council staff that they feel uncomfortable seeking health services,” said Cr Brittan.
“That is why Council has developed this wonderful and vital youth clinic, to ensure that our younger residents receive the care and advice they need to live happy and healthy lives,” said Cr Brittan.
The clinic is a bulk-billed and completely confidential service available to people under the age of 25.
“The Wyndham Youth Resource Centre is a relaxed, youth-friendly environment with staff that understand the issues many young people are facing,” Cr Brittan said.
“Young people can receive general health checks, mental health advice, referral and counselling services as well as information and advice about sexual health,” she said.
“It is important that young people feel comfortable to access health services, which is why drop-ins to the clinic at the Wyndham Youth Resource Centre are welcome, and all information is kept confidential.”
The new youth health clinic is located at the Youth Resource Centre, 86 Derrimut Rd, Hoppers Crossing, where young people can also access other valuable services and programs tailored to their needs. Appointments can be made by calling 9748 8266. For more information about services available to young people in Wyndham visit http://youth.wyndham.vic.gov.au/
