Dandenong: Dandenong: Mohanlal‘s Moustache bagged the Malayalee Association of Victoria Dr. Raman Marar Soccer tournament rolling trophy after a pulsating grand finale at Tatterson Park ground in Keysborough on 21 June.

The Malayalee Association is one of the oldest Indian associations in Victoria, and the trophy is named in memory of late Dr Raman Marar, one of its founding members.

Mohanlal’s Moustache won the game by defeating Team Huntingdale 4-2. The game was locked by Team Huntingdale in the first half with 2 goals, with Raj and Giss Thomas taking one goal each. During the second half, Mohanlal’s Moustache scored 4 goals (Athul Sajeevan – 2 goals, Achu Sebastian and capatin Kiran Narikkuzhy 1 goal each).

Giss Thomas and Hareesh Kumar from Team Huntingdale shared the Golden Boots Award for the series. Giss Thomas received Best Player Award for his outstanding performance throughout the tournament.

The  tournament that began on 29 May saw more than 120 players participate from teams such as Melbourne Stars Essendon, Melbourne Redbacks, Kerala Sports Club, Northern Warriors, Thekkan K’roos and TS XI.

The winning team Mohanlal’s Moustache is named after famous south Indian actor Mohanlal and his ubiquitous moustache, which would explain why fans of the team wore artificial moustaches to cheer their players. After the grand finals, Mr Jude Perera MP (Cranbourne) presented the winners trophies.

IHNA (www.ihna.edu.au) and Chilly Bowl Dandenong and Clayton (www.chillybowldandenong.com.au) were sponsors for the event.
