Lions Club of Sydney Indians celebrated its first anniversary on 8 April at the Thousand Spices Indian Restaurant at Homebush, NSW. The event was attended by members of the club, District Governor Mr Elvio Munzone, Past District Governor Mr Nigel Jenny, past Council Chair Mr Warren Latham, President Parramatta Lions, Mr Jon Cops and guiding lions Mr Thillai Nadesan and Ms Jane Li.
The achievements of the club for the year were presented by Club Secretary Mr Anuj Gupta, Public Relations Officer Ms Anne Kalra and President Dr Rohitas Batta.
The sponsors for this event, Kaden Borris: Legal and Business Strategists; First National Real Estate, Blacktown and Embroid Me Blacktown were thanked for their support.
Mr Munzone and team celebrated the event by cutting the first anniversary cake, as Dr Batta presented a beautiful power point presentation on the history of the Lions Club of Sydney Indians.
Mr Munzone then inducted two new members into the Club — Mr Padmanabhan Karamil and Mr Kevin Pagaddinnimath.
Lions Club of Sydney Indian team has worked hard during last year and undertaken some projects to assist members of the community including collection of used glasses and sunglasses, boxes of which were prepared and sent to the Lions Recycle Center in Queensland.
The Lions club has also partnered with UIA in the White Ribbon Day event at Coronation Club, Burwood, to help create awareness on domestic violence, as well as collect donations for victims of the Chennai and Fiji floods.
Club members render help to needy community members on a regular basis, said Mr Munzone, and added that the club has planned talks and seminars on aged care services, blood and organ donation and employability, environmental awareness and up-skilling of the youth later this year.
Lions Club of Sydney Indian has grown in numbers and activities in the last one year, said Dr Batta in his speech, and added that he hoped the Club would continue in its efforts to help those in need, fulfilling its motto of ‘Dignity, Harmony and Humanity’.
