Koalas and pizzas and a picture perfect ride through verdant rolling hills… the bush rides at Hepburn are definitely worth swinging by

Winter is a time when we tend not to want to get out and about, so we hibernate in front of the TV and eat sweet treats telling ourselves when the weather fines up, we’ll lose those extra kgs. Sound like you? Well, why not head to Daylesford/Hepburn instead?

Hepburn Lagoon Trail rides operate throughout the whole year, including winter. Riding through the Wombat State Forest is amazing and nothing compares to the thrill of spotting a mob of kangaroos grazing meters from you and your mount, inhaling fresh country air, the scent of eucalyptus gums, becoming one with nature in an environment that seems untouched by humans.

I remember being with a group of friends riding, and a friend hysterically pointing to the fork of the tree, where a koala was nestled completely unaware of our presence. The forest offers a sense of peace and serenity lost to us in the city. Riding is a unique and wonderful skill, but you don’t have to be a skilled rider to still enjoy riding. Kieran from Hepburn Lagoon Trail Rides, takes care of everything including you!

After the ride, I was able to kick back and relax in the barn—with the best part being, no brushing or cleaning up. I just jumped off my horse and handed the reins off to a staff member. My friends and I made our way into the barn, where we warmed ourselves in front of the open fire and satisfied our thirst and hunger with home-made pizza and a choice of beverages.

The “chat time” was nearly as good as the ride, as we complained about our “bits” we hadn’t felt for a while, and marveled at how good we did feel. My group was made up of a couple of newbies, and some more experienced riders. The “newbies” even felt safe enough to try a trot followed by a canter.

Kieran has been dealing with all levels of riders for years, and understands everyone’s limitation and confidence levels.

This ride was a two-hour ride, but next time, I’ll opt for the all day or maybe even the winery or pub ride they offer.

I definitely left with a natural healthy glow—a full tummy and a sense of exhilaration. The countryside is picture perfect at the moment with green rolling hills and there is a real vibrancy about the bush.

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. However, the past few years, like many media organisations around the world, it has not been an easy path. We have a greater challenge. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution. Do make a DONATION NOW so we can continue with the volume and quality journalism that we are able to practice.

Thank you for your support.

Best wishes,
