Minister for Health David Davis has labelled the Labor Opposition hypocrites over their phony concern for Victoria’s hospitals. “Daniel Andrews should be embarrassed. The figures he is quoting are the cuts that the Rudd and Gillard Governments wanted to make to our hospitals,” Mr Davis said.
“Even worse, when the Gillard and Rudd Governments cut $475 million from Victoria’s hospitals, Daniel Andrews’ Labor Party voted to support it,” he added.
In the Legislative Council in November 2012, Labor MPs voted against the interests of Victorians and voted in favour of Julia Gillard’s $107 million cut to Victorian hospitals in 2012-13.
“It was the Victorian Coalition Government that made the case to the then-Federal Labor Government for these funds to be returned and we got some of that money back; no thanks to Daniel Andrews and the Victorian Labor Opposition,” Mr Davis said. He added that while Labor cut funding to Monash Health by $45,841,000, the Coalition Government has increased funding to it by $201,289,000.
Mr Davis said that the Coalition Government is investing a record $14.3 billion in the health system, which he says is $2 billion more than Labor did during its last year in office. “We are also spending more than $4.5 billion on health infrastructure to expand capacity. We’ve put on an additional 465 paramedics and increased funding for Ambulance Victoria to a record $662 million; an increase of almost $100 million on Labor’s last budget,” he added.
Member for South Eastern Metropolitan Region Inga Peulich said the Coalition Government was proud of the record funding it was putting into Victoria’s health services. “As is always the case, don’t trust what Labor says, look at their record. Victoria can’t afford to risk our health budget with Daniel Andrews and Labor again,” Ms Peulich said.
