Think globally-flavoured dance music, with elements of cinematic atmospherics, sitar-fuzz, and bass culture into a groove-laden sonic spread. That’s what Melbourne-based outfit Sikander is all about, concocting draw their influences from House music, the Caribbean derivatives of Dancehall and Moombahton, and from the ancient folk rhythms of the Indian sub-continent.
The main Sikander line-up consists of Pradip Sarkar on synthesizer and beats, Pete Warren-Smith on bass, and Jeremy Malcolmson on electric sitar and guitar. They are, sometimes, joined on-stage by guest musicians.
Sikander has performed at a number of events and festivals, such as the French Island Music and Arts Festival NYE 2014/15, We Love Life festival at CERES Environmental Park (Brunswick East), and at the South Asian Food festival, organized by FOSAI at the Weribee Racecourse in August.
