Evening highlights organisation’s charity work towards schools in India

Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO) Sydney North West Chapter hosted its sixth annual Caring & Sharing event on 19 September, at Blacktown with splendor and success.

More than 400 guests, 70 performers and 25 volunteers attended the exciting, fun-filled and meaningful evening with the sole purpose of continuing to help others in need.

There was a variety of performances from yoga to singing and dancing as troupes like Dhamma Yoga Blacktown, SuperSohnis, CK Performing Arts, Virasat Folk Academy, Mystik Bollywood, Preet Sargam, Robina and Bhangra dancers captivated the audience with their riveting performances.

The success of the event would not have been possible without the kind, generous sponsors and supporters of the event — Khela Group of Companies, Sapphire Function Centre, Khanna Khazana and Modi Khanna, Australia Post Bathurst, Kalra Group of companies, My Loan Expert, G & A Roadlines, Gill Roadways, Ray White Quakers Hill, Prime Protection, Ravi Singh and ANZ Real Estate.

In the last six years the GOPIO SYDNEY NW Chapter team has raised more than $20,000 for underprivileged primary and middle school students in India, providing them with warm clothes, shoes, clean drinking water facilities, furniture and sports equipment. The team has additionally supported locals in need, assisting with funds and moral support. This has included being able to provide financial support to a young helpless widow, prosthetic legs to a high school student with a disability, financial help to a father of two diagnosed with cancer, and assisting those who suffered due to natural disasters, such as the victims of the Blue Mountains Bush Fire and Nepal Earthquake.

Chapter President Professor Balkar Singh Kang, Vice President Paramjit Multani, Treasurer Baljit Pelia, Secretary Sumit Joshi and other active team members, Harmohan Singh Walia, Baljinder Singh, Sanjeet Hooda, Raj Singh, Aman Singh, Amrit Dhaliwal, Neeru Singh, Tia Singh and Ravi Singh worked tirelessly to make the event a great success.
