Every heard of silambam, the traditional martial arts of Tami Nadu? Or have you ever tried your hand at drawing a kolam? Here’s your chance to celebrate the harvest season, Tamil style on 14 January, as Thaai Tamil School (TTS) and Queensland Tamil Mantram (QTM) are jointly organising Pongal Festival 2018 in Springfield, QLD with support from Government competitive grant, sponsors and various community organisations in Brisbane.

More than 3,000 people—both Tamils and non-Tamils around Brisbane—will be attending the event at Robella Domain Park, Springfield Central.

The celebrations, which are free and open to all, will feature a host of activities such as a kolam competition, a demo of the silambam martial art of Tamil Nadu, cultural programs, a magic show, face painting, fireworks and of course, a multitude of food stalls.

QTM is a non-profit community organisation working for the awareness and growth arts, literature and culture of Tamil community. TTS is an after-hours ethnic school for the Tamil community in Brisbane, where Tamil classes are conducted.

So make your way to Robelle Domain Park, Springfield Central on 14 January, 3pm to 9pm.

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. However, the past few years, like many media organisations around the world, it has not been an easy path. We have a greater challenge. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution. Do make a DONATION NOW so we can continue with the volume and quality journalism that we are able to practice.

Thank you for your support.

Best wishes,
Team The Indian Sun
